Shea Yeah packaging awards

Oh Yeah for Shea Yeah!

Roberts Metal Packaging and Shea Yeah aluminium metal jars received the highly commended award in the Metal Pack of the Year – Promotional, Decorative & General Line category at the UK Packaging Awards 2022

Established in 2016, Shea Yeah body butter and hand balm products are marketed on their use of natural plant power. The Swiss brand formulates water-free natural cosmetics with unrefined organic shea butter from Ghana, cold-pressed organic oils, and a combination of Swiss herbs. Shea Yeah is an environmentally friendly beauty brand, and as such it made sense for the packaging to demonstrate excellent green credentials alongside ‘shelf appeal’.

“Naturally sourced cosmetics have been a growing trend year on year, but there has certainly been a jump in sales as consumers become more aware of ingredients and packaging, and certainly as Gen Z start to spend,” says Chris Saunders, Managing Director, Roberts Metal Packaging. “We were delighted to have been approached by Shea Yeah to help with the brand’s packaging brief.”

The Shea Yeah brief was for two recyclable aluminium jars in 90g and 40g capacities for new products in its skincare range: a body butter and a hand balm. The jars are not single-use, so they needed to be leak-proof, have easy-to-open/easy-to-close functionality and aesthetically show off the brand’s soft colour palette and tactility. The final packaging selection must also survive being stored and used in a warm, damp bathroom environment.

Our 75ml and 50ml jars made from 0.25mm recyclable aluminium were selected from the Roberts Softline Aluminium Jar range, which structurally have soft radii and a smooth texture. The simple decoration to both lids and bases incorporates a soft pink for the 40g hand balm and a soft orange shade for the 90g body butter.

Manufactured on fully automatic, state of the art production lines in our UK London based factory, the pack is low-cost despite the luxurious feel and stylish design. The jar was clear lacquered internally and finished externally with satin-matt varnish.

Additionally, both lids were fitted with EPE liners to prevent product evaporation and to ensure a leak-proof seal with the base. Alongside the Softline design, the liner also ensures easy screw on and off action, and the lid is both leak- and damp-proof making it totally resealable after every use.

As always, Roberts aims to add value to every brand or product through packaging design, and in the case of Shea Yeah the decoration needed to demonstrate strong shelf presence amongst similar products in an increasingly crowded international market. The soft simple decoration combined with the structural design reflected the overall product image required by the client, and the feedback has been very positive from the brand and their consumers.

Alongside the effective functionality of the jars, the brief has been met with great success for Shea Yeah’s new product launch.

We’re delighted to have received the Highly Commended accolade for Shea Yeah at this year’s UK Packaging Awards.
